The Power of Music

Music is used to enhance peoples’ connection to language and messaging in every aspect of society, except education. Lyrics2Learn (L2L) uses music to help kids feel what they read which allows them to connect, interact, engage, retain, boost reading fluency and apply information more effectively. Music is powerful!

Music makes reading practice fun.

Music and reading combined offer research-based and proven strategies. Plus, it makes reading practice fun and memorable while developing a lifelong love for reading.

Music and reading fluency were made for each other.

Infusing music with text makes proven reading fluency strategies such as modeled reading, choral reading, and repeated reading both fun and engaging.

Music engages students.

Lyrics2Learn uses all types of music genres like hip-hop, rock, jazz, country, and pop; which exponentially heightens engagement during reading practice.

Music-based reading practice drives comprehension.

Reading along to music, rhythm, and rhyme increases background knowledge; as students learn information, they can more successfully connect on higher levels.

Lyrics2Learn Phonemic Awareness was beta tested in Chatham County Schools in North Carolina.

Big things are coming to Lyrics2Learn!

Here at Lyrics2Learn, our mission is to get every child reading at grade level by the end of the third grade. How do we accomplish this? Through fun, engaging, and science-based lessons that fuse music with reading to get kids excited to learn. With that being said, we are excited to announce that we have a new phonemic awareness program in the works, Lyrics2Learn Phonemic Awareness (L2LPA).

Testimonials

“This is our second week to use the printable resources [on L2L].  We have been doing cold reads on Monday. On Tuesday and Wednesday and sometimes Thursday we have been doing a day out of Lyrics2Learn. On Thursday or Friday, we have been doing our hot reads. The kids are ROCKING it and last week when the Tier 2 and 3 kiddos were progress monitored by the reading interventionist, ALL of their reading scores improved!  It’s working and they LOVE it.”

Amy Jenkins

Teacher at Eisenhower Elementary

“Lyrics2Learn began as one of Chatham’s Tier 2 reading interventions, but after one year we decided to make it a piece of our core curriculum.”

Chris Poston

Administrator at Chatham County Schools

“This is the first time my struggling readers have begged to read.  One of my students brought tears to my eyes yesterday. She is severe ADHD and is very behind because in the past her teachers sent her out of the classroom instead of working with her ADHD.  She got a 67% on her day 3 test yesterday and was writing it down to show her Mom. She was so excited. That’s the highest score she has ever made, according to her. Those are the moments I live for. They tell me that I am teaching in the right school.”

Harriet Fontenot

Teacher at Isaac School District #5

“Last years students gained either one year or two years of growth in their reading by using this program daily.”

Velma Monday

Teacher at Whitfield County Schools

“Thank you so much for your tech support and everything through the years.  You have a wonderful program, and I always felt that my students benefited greatly from their work with your program.”

Karen Drum

Former Teacher at Lincoln County Schools

“It’s [Lyrics2Learn] truly amazing. I really love Lyrics2Learn and the cool part is that it’s for all ages if you’re trying to increase your vocabulary and word speed. This would be an asset to both teachers and speech therapists everywhere for people who are learning or relearning like me.”
